Synovial Joints

• Joint capsule – Contains and protects joint structures
• Bursa Pads – Act as buffers between tendons, the joint capsules and bones, limiting friction
• Cartilage – Coats the articulating surfaces of bones, preventing friction and absorbing shock
• Synovial Membrane – Produces and secretes synovial fluid into the joint cavity to prevent friction
• Synovial Fluid – A thick lubricant to prevent friction and nourish the cartilage
• Ligaments – Surround the joint capsule, connecting the articulating bones together
