behavioural observations

• An ethogram is a catalogue or inventory of behaviours exhibited by an animal. A list of species specific behaviours, categorized into a table format
• Focal animal sampling: focus on one individual animal and record its behaviour
• Scan sampling: observe multiple individuals at regular intervals, recording the behaviour of each individual at that moment
• All-occurences recording: record every occurance of a specific behaviour, regardless of which individual exhibits it 
• Narrative recording: a detailed, written description of the animals behaviour over time. Captures the flow of context of behaviour in detail 
• Event recording: counts the frequency of specific behaviours within a specific time period. Useful for quantifying discrete behaviours that have a clear start and end.
