    • asocial stage. baby is able to recognise familiar people however their behaviour to toys and objects is quite similar to humans
    • indiscriminate stage. 

      more responsive behaviour, shows a preference to humans and not objects, no stranger or separation anxiety
    • specific attachment
      around 7 months infant shows anxiety towards stranger and anxious when separated from one adult usually the mother (primary attachment figure)
    • multiple attachment
      show attachment behaviour to other adults that they spend time with (secondary attachments) almost 30% of children had secondary attachments within one month of forming a primary attachment
