Cards (6)

    • Caused by unregulated and abnormal cell growth leading to tumours. When these cells spread it disrupts normal functioning of the body
    • Caused by many different factors including: infectious agents, genetics, lifestyle choices and environmental factors
    • Genes play an important role in regulating normal cell division and DNA repair. Mutations in these genes can disrupt this normal regulation leading to cancer
    • Dna repair genes– code for proteins that either stop the cell cycle or remove damaged regions of dna and replace them with the correct sequence
    • Proto-oncogene– code for proteins that stimulate cell growth and mitosis
    • Tumour suppressor gene– code for proteins that slow down or stop cell growth and mitosis as well as instruct cell death if needed
