• Appeals and appellate courts:

  Courts of first instance

  • Mags court and Crown court are the trial courts
  • Mags can only give max 6 month sentence (or 6 months x2 for more than one offence)
• Appeal courts

  Grounds for appeal to each court and route:

  • Point of law: mags > crown > high court > Supreme Court (only cases of public importance)
  • Conviction of sentence: mags > crown > court of appeal > Supreme Court (conviction only, not sentence, and only cases of public importance).
