• Stomata is found in the lower epidermis
• meristem tissue is made up of plant stem cells
• Waxy cuticle and guard cells help to limit water loss
• upper epidermis is transparent to allow light to pass through and reach the palisade layer where photosynthesis takes place.
• Spongy mesophyll layer has gaps to allow carbon dioxide to diffuse from the stomata to the palisade mesophyll cells
