  • Tissue - A group of similar cells that work together to carry out a particular function
  • Muscular tissue
    • Long and thin
    • Contract to become shorter
    • 3 types of muscular tissue - Skeletal, Smooth and cardiac
  • Skeletal muscles
    • Muscles attached to the bone
    • e.g. arms and legs
    • We can move them when necessary
  • Smooth Muscle
    • Found in the walls of the stomach and intestines
    • We cannot contract smooth muscles voluntarily
  • Cardiac Muscle
    • Makes up most of the heart
    • The heart muscle cannot be voluntarily contracted
  • Connective tissue
    • Provides support
    • Helps hold up the whole body
    • Cells are not close togther
    • Separated by large amounts of Matrix (non-cellular)
    • e.g. Bones, cartilage, tendons, ligaments and fat storage
  • Epithelial tissue
    • A covering or lining tissue
    • Our skin is epithelial tissue
    • The cells are very close together
  • Nervous tissue
    • Made of specialised nerve cells called neurons
    • Used to carry messages from one part of the body to another
