Random sampling

Cards (3)

  • How is random sampling carried out?
Identifying everyone in the target population and then selecting the number of participants you need in a way that gives everyone an equal chance of being picked, e.g., numbers from a hat.
  • What is a strength of random sampling?
It is completely randomised. This is a strength as has a better chance of producing an unbiased, representative sample of the target population.
  • What is a weakness of random sampling?
The target population/ sample need to be assigned to something like numbers. This is a weakness as if the sample is large, this will be difficult to do, and not all members are always available.
