  • Activities of Daily Living (ADL) is a measure of the functional status of older persons.
    Majority of older persons are able to perform ADL without help.
    ○ Otherwise, they suffer from illnesses, accidents, or injury.
  • Leading causes of illnesses/accidents/injury that affected the ADL of older persons:
    1. Respiratory;
    2. Neurologies;
    3. Musculoskeletal;
    4. Cardiovascular;
    5. Sensory; and
    6. Trauma
  • ● Common health problems/conditions presented by older persons:
    [1] Difficulty in walking (Abnormal Gait);
    • It happens when there is a difficulty in stepping forward or in walking. There are also imbalances when a person walks.
    [2] Difficulty in chewing (Dysphagia);
    [3] Impaired vision of at least one eye;
    [4] Hearing problems;
    [5] Feet restricting activities
