why did people support Hitler

• Hitler used the following criticisms' to gain support;

  1. WR was weak and lacked leadership
  2. there is too much unemployment
  3. worried that communists are a threat
• National unity

  • Hitler promised to restore law and order - force other countries to scrap the ToV and treat Germany fairly
  • Nazi propaganda focused on National pride and everyone working together to make Germany great again
• Hitlers appeal

  • Hitler used aeroplanes to travel around the country campaigning in elections - posters and radio broadcasts got his messages across and focused on him
• the SA's appeal

  • the SA made the Nazi's look organised, disciplined and reliable enough to control unrest and stand up to foreign powers
  • the SA disrupted other party campaigns and looked stronger then the communists
• big businesses

  • Hitler persuaded industrialists that he was the best way to protect them from the communists - they provided lots of money for the Nazi campaigns
  • Hitler promised to protect people's wealth and land from the communists (who wanted to abolish private businesses)
• working class

  • Hitler emphasised the socialists side of the Nazi party and promised 'work and bread'
• middle class

  • professional classes had lost wealth during the great depression - Hitler promised to get it back
  • Hitler promised to protect peoples land and wealth from the communists
  • Hitler would return the National pride that had been lost under the republics control
  • Nazi Policy of confiscating all private land was changed to only if it was Jews land
• young - many = unemployed

  • Nazi's had lots of exciting colourful rallies which attracted the young
• Women

  • initially not many women voted the Nazi party but the Nazi's made specialist appeal to women and focused their party on being best for their families and country
