Chemical - anything with STOREDENERGY which can be released by a chemicalreaction
Light - Anything LUMINOUS gives off light energy
Heat (Thermal) - Anything with a temperature has heat energy
electricity in our homes come from the national power grid aka power station
Magnets- When you put two ends of a magnet together they repel
Magnets - When you put two different ends together they attract
Electricity is produced when metal wire is moved in a magnetic field
Fossil Fuels - Coal, oil, and natural gas
Nuclear fuels like uranium
The main stages of generation of electricity at a Power station -
The fuel heats water in the BOILER. This produces steam
The steam turns the TURBINE
Electricity is produced in the GENERATOR
Power stations in NI
Coolkeeragh OIL 180MW
BallylumfordGAS950MW
Kilroot COAL/OIL 600MW
To get to Ballylumford from Scotland to get a gas supply they use a pipeline under the sea
Oil, coal, natural gas are called fossil fuels because they are made from thing which were once alive
Coal was formed by dead plants that sank into the swamps and eventually rotten to form the layer of peat. After millions of years the heat and pressure turned it into coal.
The difference between the way coal and oil was formed is that Oil is from animals and Coal is from the swamps.
The similarities are they both form for 100 millions of years
