  • John Stuart Mill (1806-1873): British Philosopher. Originally strong believer of Adam Smith (Classical Liberal) but after the horrors of the IR he changes his ideas moderately. Believes government should have more regulations (protection of workers from being exploited). The Father of MOdern Liberalism. Individual rights are most important thing is society. Protection of individuals freedom and decision making should be the core of societal institutions.
  • John Stuart Mill: Harm Principle. Freedom of speech and though were the most important and the only limitations the ruler should place were those that would protect others. Strongly advocated free speech. Governments should be involved to protect workers from exploitation as a result of the horrors of the industrial revolution. Married Harriet Taylor and became more interest in women's rights and feminism.
