“That which hath made them drunk hath made me bold which hath quenched them hath given me fire”
the same alcohol they gave to Duncan‘s guards to get them drunk so they could kill Duncan is the same alcohol she is using to fuel her own violence
Appears more ruthless and barbaric than Macbeth does
“The sleeping and the dead are but as pictures: tis the eye of childhood“
a lot more strong
She is ridiculing macbeths guilt and Macbeth‘s feelings towards violence
Saying that almost as innocent as pictures of children so she’s ridiculing this in a turmoil of Macbeth
“had he not resembled my father as he slept, I had done it”
seen as her justification for being more of a coward
She never commits any violent acts and her justification is that if King Duncan didn’t look so much like her father she would’ve killed him herself
Lady macbeths weaknesses appear in act 2 although she appears to be the malevolent evil force behind Macbeth she does have this weakness
More emotional, less strong than Macbeth
“A little water clears us of this deed”
“a little water” is her undermining this guilt, this trauma, this inner turmoil of Macbeth and she’s just saying a little water will get it off don’t worry about it
“My hands are of your colour I shame to wear a heart so white”
completely ridiculing Macbeth‘s guilt, she is not only trivialising it but she is patronising and emasculating Macbeth
cantos purity and innocence - undermining his presence and his strength
