competence - includes awareness of professional ethics and making ethical decisions.
responsibility - protection from harm and debriefing.
integrity - includes honesty, avoiding deception and addressing misconduct.
Ethical issue 1 - informed consent:
given comprehensive information about the nature and purpose of the study and their role in it.
to reduce demand characteristics, researchers might not give participants informed consent so it doesn't affect participants behaviour and maintain meaningfulness of research.
EI 2 - confidentiality:
participants right to have personal information protected .
it may not be possible to keep information confidential, because some details of study might give away identification.
EI 3 - privacy:
right to control the flow of information about themselves.
researchers may not want to alert participants they are being observed to prevent change of behaviour from participants.
