  • Sewing machine is used to put together two or more pieces of material or to stitch decoration on a fabric.
  • The three main parts of a sewing machine are the cabinet, stand or steel framework, and the head.
  • The cabinet consists of the drawers and the extension leaf.
  • The stand or steel framework consists of the treadle, belt guide, drive wheel, pitman rod, drive wheel crank, and the leg.
  • The head consists of the arm, balance wheel, bobbin winder, face plate, feed dog, feed dog regulator, needle clamp, pressure bar, pressure bar lifter, shuttle, spool pin, stitch regulator, stop motion screw, thread guide, thread take-up lever, throat plate, upper tension, bobbin, and bobbin case.
  • The thread handling parts consists of spool pin, upper thread guide, tension assembly, thread take-up lever, lower thread guide, needle, needle clamp, bobbin, bobbin case.
  • The fabric handling parts consists of the presser foot, feed dog, throat plate, stitch, feed throw out knob.
  • The drawers keep materials for sewing.
  • The extension leaf covers the cabinet.
  • The foot rests on the treadle, which moves the drive wheel.
  • The belt guide holds the belt in place.
  • The drive wheel moves the balance wheel.

  • The spindle is where the thread is inserted.
  • The rubber wheel rubs against the balance wheel and turns the bobbin winder.
  • The latch keeps the bobbin in place while winding.
  • The face plate covers the left end head on which the needle bar and thread take-up lever are located.
  • The feed dog moves the material as it stitches. It is found in the middle of the face plate.
  • The feed dog regulator is used to adjust the height of the feed dog.
  • The needle clamp holds the fabric against the feed dog. It is found at the middle of the face plate.
  • The pressure bar holds the pressure foot and needle.
  • The pressure bar lifter lowers and raises the presser foot. It is located on the slot of the face plate.
