• • Bowlby argued that a child would mainly develop a bond with its mother . More recent research suggests the father plays an important role in raising kids . This means there needs to be more flexible working hours . It is now the norm for mothers to be higher earners and work longer whilst dads stay home . Modern parents are better equipped to maximise their income and contribute to the economy.
• • In 3% of cases the father was the primary attachment; in 27% of cases the father was the joint attachment. By 18 months, 75% of infants had an attachment with their father. Their research suggests that the father tended to be the secondary attachment figure
• Treatments for mental illness: 

  • £15 billion is the cost to the economy through people having to take time off work . Govt report = third of absences are due to mental health disorders .
  • Research has enabled patients to have their illness diagnosed and treated . 
  • Eg. SSRI → depression  + OCD 
  • Therapy → CBT
