      - creates a variety of jobs which makes them financially stable and improves their quality of life: hotel and bar staff, taxi drivers
      - increases people's awareness and understanding of a nation and its culture
      - governments invest in roads and services in hope of attracting tourists. Locals can use this facilities too
      - tourists spend money in local shops, the shop owners gain more income and the business can be improved to attract more customers
    • What are some disadvantages of tourism?
      - ecosystems are ruined where hotels and tourist facilities are built
      - litter on beaches spoils the environment and affects the wildlife
      - jobs created by tourism are often low skilled, poorly paid and seasonal, so people may lose their jobs in the low season
      - local shops become very busy in the day and locals find this irritating

      - the 1 million tourists from the UK, Germany, USA provide markets for local goods: improves the economy as money can be used to improve healthcare, schooling, national infrastructure which would attract tourists

      - jobs are poorly paid and often seasonal
      - locals are exploited through low wages and long hours

      - wildlife disturbed by tourists and vehicles: tourists should keep to a distance of 20m when viewing wildlife
      - damage grassland and habitats: trucks and vehicles must not drive off-road
      - local cultures exploited: respect culture by not taking pictures of locals without permission as it would make them uncomfortable
      - plastic and rubbish enters waterways and harms aquatic animals: do not litter
      - not feed animals as it could upset their diets and lead to human dependency
      - buy from local goods so that the money made is used by Kenya rather than the company headquarters in MEDCs
