  ex: baby and mother

  (Toddlerhood: 2-3 years old)- Independence- Terrible stage

  Health teaching: allow the child to explore the environment.

  A sense of self-control & adequacy
• Initiative vs Guilt

  (Preschooler: 4-6 years old)

  - allowing the child to participate in household chores so that they can develop accountability and independence

  Ability to be a “self-starter” to initiate one’s own activities.
• Industry vs Inferiority


  (Grade Schooler-Elementary: 7-11 yrs old)

  - praise based on performance

  Ability to learn how things work, to understand and organize
• Identity vs Role Confusion

• Oral Stage


  Infant: 0-1 yr old)

  - mouth

  Ex: thumb sucking, excessive alcohol drinking, nail biting
• Anal Stage


  (Toddler: 2-3 yrs old)

  - development of conscience starts at this age

  - importance of toilet training

  Health teaching: do not laugh at the child at this stage because he/she is still developing his conscience - right from wrong

  Anal Retentive- organized, OCD

  Anal Expulsive- disorganized

  - found of giving away things
• Phallic Stage


  (Preschooler: 4-6 yrs old)

  - Sex organ

  - masturbation

  * normal growth stage when the child plays with his sex organ

  Health teaching: divert the attention of the child

  Oedipus complex- boy close to his mother

  Electra Complex- girl is close to her father
• Latency Stage


  (Gradeschool/ELementary: 7-11)

  Sexual organs are dormant(tulog)

  ocused in school and they hate the opposite gender.

  Very competitive
• Genital Stage


  ( Puberty: 12 above)

  - appearance of secondary sex characteristics

  - aim is reproduction

  - libido resurfaces
