Bio, Socio, Enviro Factors

Cards (3)

  • Body weight
Using one biological factor, explain how each could contribute to variations in burden of disease between those living within major cities and outside major cities in Australia.  2 marks
Sample response: Those outside of major cities have a higher prevalence of overweight/obesity compared to non those inside major cities. This can lead to obesity related conditions such as premature death. This would overall contribute to increased YLL for those outside major cities compared to those inside major cities.
  • Levels of Education:
Using one sociocultural factor, explain how each could contribute to variations in burden of disease between those living within major cities and outside major cities in Australia.  2 marks
Those outside major cities have lower levels of education attainment than those inside major cities in Australia. This means likely to participate in risk taking behaviours like risky levels of alcohol use. Alcohol causes weight gain which would increase the risk of premature death from associated diseases such as CVD. This can increase YLL for those outside major cities.
  • Workplace (Work Environment)
Using one environmental factor, explain how each could contribute to variations in burden of disease between those living within major cities and outside major cities in Australia.  2 marks
Those outside major cities may be more likely to work in a dangerous work environment than those inside major cities. This could include working with farming equipment which could result in risk of injury, increasing YLD for those outside major cities compared to inside major cities.
