• Hydrocarbons- any compound thats formed from carbon and hydrogen only.
• Alkane - saturated hydrocarbon
• Alkanes are a series of compounds that contain carbon and hydrogen atoms with single covalent bonds.
• The general formula for an alkane is CnH2n+2, where n is the number of carbons in the molecule.
• Ethane (C2H6) has two carbon atoms and six hydrogen atoms.
• Propane (C3H8) has three carbon atoms and eight hydrogen atoms.
• Butane (C4H10) has four carbon atoms and ten hydrogen atoms.
• Methane (CH4) has 1 carbon atoms and 4 hydrogen atoms.
