  • The Law of Entropy. This law when applied to energy says that no energy exchange is 100% efficient. Some amount of energy in the energy transformation is not converted into the type of energy that was wanted.
  • For each high setting more electrical energy is used. For each higher setting more electrical energy is used, or heat energy is accordingly produced. The law states that energy cannot be created or destroyed but can only be transferred from one object to another, or transformed from one type to another. When the energy input into a device is increased, the energy output must also increase. 
  • In the example of the hair straightener, as the settings increase, energy input increases. As these input energies increase, the output energy of heat energy also increases. These changes thus demonstrate the law of conservation of energy. 
  • Why does out hair stick up when rubbed against a balloon?
    Our hair tends to stick up as when it is rubbed with a balloon, the electrons from out hair are transferred to the balloon, making our hair positively charged and the balloon negatively charged. As they have different charges, it attracts each other, making the hair follow the balloon.
