  • Informed consent:
    • ensures participants are aware of all potential risks and costs
    • compitant participants must be informed in writing

    • all participants must be able to withdraw at any time without consenquence
  • Deception on reaserch:
    • intentionally misleading participants, giving false information, ommiting information about purpouse.
  • Confidentiallity:
    • refers to participants rights to privacy
    • participants must be informed of all parties who will have access to their info
  • Privacy:
    • protection of identity
    • protects participants from unwanted intrusion into their private lives by collecting info only relevant to study
  • Voluntary participation:
    • a participant must voluntarily decide to participate in an experiment with no pressure to participait
  • Debreifing:
    • deception must be explained to patients (debreifed) as early as possiable and written consent must be given again.
  • Why are animals used in reaserch:
    • animals allow for natural and unbiased behavior to be observed
  • Ethics around animal reaserch:
    • animals have 'no voice' and cannot consent or withdraw from an experiment.
  • What are the 3 Rs in animal reaserch:
    • replacement, redifinement, reduction
  • Replacement:
    • if any part of experiment at any time in experiment can be done without animals it must be done/considered.
  • Reduction:
    • the number of animals used in a project must be the minimum to achive the stats needed for the experiment
  • Redifinement:
    • alliviate potential pain and distress and enchance wellbeing
