  • What is resistance to social Influence? The ways to which individuals attempt to withstand percieved attempts to threaten freedom of choice. (Ability to withstand the majority influnce or group pressures)
  • What is social support? The idea that you have people in your presence who are resiting conformity or obeying can help you do the same. These people act as models to show that resistance is possible
  • What does Milgrams research show about social support in resisting social influence? When there was a disobedient confederate in a variation of the study, conformity then dropped to only 10%.
  • What is research to support resistance to social influence for obedience? Mullen et al found that when disobedient models broke the law by jay-walking, participants were more likely to jay walk themselves. This was compared to when there were no disobedient models.
  • What research supports resistence to Social influence for conformity? Asch found that if a dissenter answered differently int he study conformtiy decreased. (It even decreased when the participant stated he did not have good vision)
  • What limitation of resistence to social influence was shown in Asch's study? If a non-conforming dissenter began to conform againt then so did the niave participant. Therefore showing the dissent is not long lasting.
