  • Ideal mental health criteria:
    • High self-esteem: Having self-respect and a positive self-concept.
    • Autonomy: Being independent, self-reliant, and able to make personal decisions.
    • Resistance to stress: Having effective coping strategies and being able to cope with everyday anxiety-provoking situations.
    • Accurate perception of reality: Having an objective and realistic view of the world.
    • Growth or self-actualization: Experiencing personal growth and becoming everything one is capable of becoming.
  • Ideal mental health evaluation:
    + comprehensive definition: covers all reasons someone may seek help
    - culture bias: western bias, cannot be applied to other cultures
    - standards are too high: very unlikely for someone to achieve all aspects of the categories so it would label normal people as abnormal
