Induction and Transformers

• Factors affecting induced potential difference

  Reversed when magnet is moved out of the coil / opposite pole of magnet moved into coil
• A.C Generator (Alternator)

  1.Produces current that is consistently changing

  2.Due to slip rings maintaining constant contact with external circuit to reverse the direction of current
• Transformers

  Can change the potential difference of an alternating current
• Step up transformers

  Increase voltage, decreases current
• Step down transformers

  Decreases voltage, increases current
• Potential difference or current increases if:

  Magnetic field strength is increased

  Number of coils are increased
• Use of generator effect 


  P.D is needed to make an electric current flow in a circuit
• When does the generator effect occur

  When a coil of wire is moved into a magnetic field / Magnet moved into a coil of wire
• There are two types of generators

  Alternating current generator / Direct current generator
