  huge amount of choice of identity and status - not characterised by consensus or conflict as you choose your own belief,family,gender which is empowering or unsettling eg. can lead to crisis of masculinity

  AO3 - PM overstate extent of choice most live with born family or gender globally theres limited choice
• 2. GLOBAL CHARACTER

  globalisation led to interconectedness and globality unlike modernity one nation unit eg. global economy - supranational bodies,international companies produce global products and become global culture - complex, fluid and interdependent

  AO3 - hybrid of culture as people pick n mix cultures for own identities
• 3. REJECTION OF META NARRATIVES

  big stories of modern society no longer relevant eg. functionalism,marxism as PM society is fragmentated and no value consensus with no clear structure - truth is relative

  AO3 - Pm itself is a meta narrative - dismissed itself as having anything to say more valid than anything else
• 4. GREATER ACCEPTANCE + TOLERANCE OF ALT WAYS OF LIVING

  PM society greater acceptance to sexuality,ethnicity,gender and disability eg. policies for equal rights - same sex marriage, 2010 equality act

  AO3 - legal protections different from public attitude - increase hate crime in UK shows still some way to go before widespread tolerance PM suggests
