    challenges modern era of social theories - anti-foundationalist so big stories cant explain PM society as a whole as society is fragmentated with no value consensus and truth is relative

    increasingly interconnected and global eg. global economy - supranational bodies, international companies produce global products with global culture facilitated by technological changes

    PM media dominates lives baudrillard - created a hyperreality so difficult to differentiate image and reality - simulance as images appear to reflect images in real world with no reality basis

    social and social structures are fragmentated with growing individualism and identities formed by individual choice. baudrillard - 'end of the social' and identities no longer resticted by social factors with ability to pick n mix and become spiritual shopped create DIY cocktail
    AO3 - emphasises construction of identity is more fluid and complex with more choice based on consumer lifestyle and media as identity cant be reduced to simple response of social structure
