  • IPPB Settings:
    • Delivers approx 40% O2 (100% option)
    • Saline / bronchodilator in nebuliser
    • Must achieve pt synchrony or will further increase work of breath
    • Sensitivity
    • Flow
    • Pressure
  • Settings - Sensitivity:
    • Should be able to trigger with minimal effort
    • Increase sensitivity if machine self-triggers
  • Settings - Flowrate (speed of breath):
    • Slow flowrate to encourage optimal distribution of gas to peripheral lung units
    • Breathless patients will require higher flowrates
    • If machine cuts out before patient has finished inspiring then DECREASE the flowrate
    • If inspiration is too long for the patient then INCREASE the flowrate
  • Settings - Pressure (size of breath):
    • Increase gradually
    • Look for good thoracic expansion
    • Patient comfort
    • Adults usually require at least 15 cmH2O
