  • Baddeley's List-Recall Experiment

Baddeley's research supports the existence of separate stores. His list-recall experiment suggested STM and LTM are separate and coded respectively acoustically and semantically.
  • Flashbulb Memories
Flashbulb memories (vivid memories of specific events) challenge the idea that memory is processed in a linear fashion.
  • The Multi-store Memory Model Makes Memory Oversimplified!

The MSM is considered to be oversimplified in suggesting that the stores are unitary and operate in a single, uniform way. For example research into the different types of LTM: Procedural, Episodic and Semantic- they are all processed under different parts of the brain.
  • The MMM was the Starting Basis
The MMM gave a good understanding of the structure and process of memory and gas been the basis of future models of memory (e.g. the Working Model of Memory, which proposes that STM is split into several components- Central executive in charge with slave systems with different responsibilities)
  • HM
Case studies such as HM does support the idea that LTM and STM are separate.
