3 - TEMPERATURE ON RATE OF REACTION

Cards (2)

  • METHOD?
    1. Set water bath to 20 degrees Celsius
    2. Measure x cm^3 of 1 moldm^-3 HCl and add to conical flask
    3. Allow solution to reach temperature of water bath
    4. Weigh x g of magnesium ribbon
    5. Place into conical flask, immediately attach gas syringe and start a timer
    6. Record volume of gas evolved in first 20 seconds
    7. Repeat for a range of temperatures
    8. Plot graph of temperature (x-axis) against initial rate (y-axis)
  • WHY NOT ABOVE 60 DEGREES CELSIUS?
water evaporates from HCl solution, increasing concentration
