    The psychologist must identify the negative thoughts the patient is having
    this may be broken down into the negative triad
  • explain THE PATIENT BECOMES THE SCIENTIST?

    It's crucial the patient begins to COLLECT EVIDENCE to refute their negative thoughts
    This is set as HOMEWORK
    This is sometimes called a THOUGHT DIARY
  • Explain THOUGHT DIARY REVIEW?

    • If in future sessions the patient says 'nobody likes me', the therapist can PRODUCE THE EVIDENCE they collected themselves to challenge this
    • The therapist then suggests, with the patient, a more adaptive thought to have
    COGNITIVE RESTRUCTURING- the patients way of thinking has now been changed
