Gender Inequality

Cards (5)

  • Gender Inequality
Gender inequality is a cause of income inequality.
Most significantly, the motherhood tax; disadvantage in pay that working mothers face in comparison to fathers. Mothers are not only being paid less, but their expenses will increase to provide for their children. Motherhood prevents women from progressing in their careers, as social ideas percieve them as the primary caregiver.
  • Gender Inequality - EXAMPLE & ANALYSIS
In 2023, mothers earned 24% less an hour than fathers - 1.3% increase since 2020.
This shows the ever-increasing inequity of pay between working mothers and fathers, creating significant income disproportion.
  • Gender Inequality - REBUTTAL
    Decreasing Gender Pay Gap
Difference in pay between male and female employees (Men often recieve more money than women)
Reduced Gap = Less income inequality
  • Gender Inequality - REBUTTAL (EXAMPLES & ANALYSIS)
The gender pay gap has fallen 25% in the last decade - sitting at just 7.7% in 2023.
This shows the reduced impact of the gender pay gap on women as workplaces have become fairer, moving towards equality.
  • Gender Inequality - EVALUATION
Although the motherhood tax is a significant inequality, gender inequity has significantly reduced in terms of pay, and this lessens its importance as a cause of income inequality.
