Synapse and reflex

Cards (5)

  • synapse
    connection between two neurones
  • how are nerve signals transferred?

    nerve signals transferred by chemicals which diffuse across the gap and set off a new electrical signal
  • reflex arc
    1. neurones in reflex arc go through spinal cord
    2. stimulus detected by receptor impulses sent by sensory neurones to relay neurones
    3. when impulses reach synapse trigger chemical release causes impulses to be sent along the relay neurone
    4. then chemicals released along the motor neurone
    5. travel along motor neurone to effector and muslces contract
  • compare how info is transferred across a neurone with how information is transferred along the synapse
    neurone= electrical impulse
    synapse=diffusion/ movement if chemicals
  • give two ways in which a reflex action is different from an action controlled by hormones
    reflex actions are quicker
    hormones involve blood system while reflex involves nerve cells
    reflex involve impulses and hormones involve chemicals
