  Although the USA does not spend the most in the world on defence as a proportion of GDP, in absolute terms it spends vastly more than any other country. This allows them to develop a technological advantage over other world powers, by ensuring they have enough money to invest in the expansion of warfare materials - such as nuclear weapons.

  In 2020, they spent $778 billion. Additionally, over one third of the total world’s defence spending is by the USA alone.

  This shows just how much money America puts into ensuring the influence of it’s military, with the significant funds allowing the country to develop it’s military into being defensive and capable of gaining power in many world countries.

  However, China is also becoming more threatening to the USA in terms of military development, threatening their advantage of being technologically advanced.

  China already has the largest army in the world ranked by active military personnel, but they are now putting more focus into expanding and developing their forces - with their nuclear arsenal growing faster than expected.

  The USA estimates the Chinese military had more than 500 operational nuclear warheads in its arsenal as of May 2023 and will have more than 1,000 warheads by 2030.

  China are aiming to more than double their nuclear capabilities in the very near further, showing just how much funding and resources they are able to put into developing their military. They are catching up to the USA, revoking them from their technological advantage.

  Overall, it is clear that China is a growing threat to the USA, however they still retain their status of high technological advancement and power, with the large amounts of funding they put into developing their military equipment evidently maintaining their lead - ensuring that America is the most powerful country with a strong platform to protect and promote it’s interests.
