  • Income
A final way in which some Ethnic Minority groups experience social inequality in the USA is through income inequalities.
There are huge income and poverty inequalities in the USA, with deprivation affecting a greater percentage of Black and Hispanic Americans.
This is for two main reasons:
    • the inescapable cycle of poverty that has existed for years in the American Economy
    • the racism experienced by ethnic minority groups in the workplace preventing them from taking on high-paying, skilled roles.
  • Income - Example and Analysis
Median household income for White Americans was around $81,060 in 2022, compared to just $62, 800 for Hispanic Americans, and $52, 860 for Black Americans
This staggering difference evidences the gap in the accumulation of wealth between ethnic groups in America, evidencing the detrimental effects that socio-economic inequality has on Black and Hispanic Americans as it prevents them from earning an equal income.
  • Income - Rebuttal
However, there has been some slight economic progress for some African Americans.
Better access to education, leading to better paying jobs has allowed many African Americans to become more socially mobile and earning more.
  • Income - Rebuttal (Example & Analysis)
Between 2011 and 2022, the median Black American household income rose by nearly 30%.
This steady increase highlights the movement towards tackling the income inequalities faced by ethnic minority citizens in the USA, with the effects of poverty and deprivation being slowly limited.
  • Income - Evaluation
Despite this, the economic inequality experienced by ethnic minority groups in society is deeply-rooted, and there has been very slow progress towards resolving this inequality, and therefore, Black and Hispanic people are significantly effected by income inequalities.
