• Chemical Cells - produce a voltage across the cell until one of the reactants has been used up
• Fuel Cell - type of chemical cell that is supplied with a fuel and oxygen and uses energy from the reaction to produce electrical energy efficiently
• Hydrogen-Oxygen Fuel Cell:

  • energy released by hydrogen and oxygen reacting
  • creates voltage
  • only product is water

  hydrogen + oxygen ---> water
• Evaluation of Hydrogen Cell:

  • more efficient than power stations and batteries (advantage)
  • electricity generated directly from the reaction (advantage)
  • lots of heat energy (advantage)
  • no moving parts so energy isn't lost by friction (advantage)
  • only product is water meaning no pollutants (advantage)
  • difficult to store as it is a gas (disadvantage)
  • hydrogen is flammable so it is unsafe (disadvantage)
  • hydrogen fuel generated from hydrocarbons or electrolysis (disadvantage)
