  diencephalon - thalamus and hypothalamus
• what does the thalamus do

  relays sensory info from the brain stem to the cortex
• what does the hypothalamus do?

  controls basic functions such as hunger, thirst and sexual behaviour
• what happens when a stressor is seen

  the PNS activates the sypathetic pathway, stopping the body from digesting food and increasing HR etc.
• what happens when the stressor goes

  parasympathetic kicks in, returning body back to normal
• what does the autonomic NS do?

  Regulates involuntary bodily functions.
• what does the somatic NS do?

  controls muscle movement and receives info from sensory receptors
• what is the somatic NS composed of?

  sensory nerve pathways and motor nerve pathways
• what do the sensory nerve pathways do

  bring info to the CNS from sensory receptors dealing with touch,pain etc
• what do the motor nerve pathways do

  control bodily movements by carrying constructions towards muscles
