Iodine test for starch

• What equipment is needed for the iodine test?

  Food sample, test tube, iodine solution (0.01 mol/dm³), pipettes.
• What is the first step of the iodine test?


  Put some of the food sample into a test tube.
• What is the second step of the iodine test?

  Add a few drops of iodine solution to the food sample using a pipette.
• What is the third step of the iodine test?

  If starch is present, the solution will turn from brown to blue-black.

  Note the colour change in a table of results.
