What equipment is needed for the Benedict's test?
Food sample, test tube, Benedict's solution, hot water bath, thermometer, pipettes.
What is the first step of the Benedict's test?
Add an
equal volume or excess of Benedict's solution
to the food sample in a test tube.
What is the second step of the Benedict's test?
Place the test tube in a
hot water bath
for a few minutes.
What is the third step of the Benedict's test?
If reducing sugars are present,
a brick-red precipitate
will form. If absent, the solution remains blue. Note the colour change.
