TOPIC 1 : ENERGY

• mechanical working is when a force acts on an object (e.g pulling, pushing, stretching, squashing )
• electrical is working is a charge moving through a potential difference
• heating (by particles) is energy transferred from a hotter object to a colder one (e.g conduction)
• (heating by) radiation is energy transferred by electromagnetic waves (e.g visible light)
• specific heat capacity is the amount of energy required to cause the temperature of 1kg of a substance by 1 degrees
• if a substance has a low specific heat capacity then it heats up and cools down quickly
• power is the rate of energy transfer or the rate of work is done
