  • Social Action Theory and Symbolic Interactionism
    These theories assume that social structures can influence how we act , but are still critical of structural theories like Marxism which overexaggerate the power of such structures.
    Social action theory and symbolic interactionism focus more on individual agency to avoid the determinism of structural theories.
  • Phenomenology
    This theory completely rejects the idea that there is an external social structure influencing our behaviour.
    Instead, this approach suggests that society is entirely socially constructed.
