    1. when hard rock overlays a soft rock; the softer rock erodes faster
    2. this means the river UNDERCUTS hard rock, leaving an OVERHANG
    3. PLUNGE POOL forms below waterfall
    4. overhanging rock falls into plunge pool which erodes it & makes it bigger
    5. waterfall retreats backwards
