• How to test for starch?

  Add iodine solution
• What colour does the solution turn is starch is present?

  Blue/Black
• What is the test for protein?

  Add biuret reagent
• What colour does solution turn if protein is present?

  Purple
• Considerations, Mistakes and Errors:

  -Do not boil any mixture for too long as starch may break down into sugar and test positive

  -Iodine SOLUTION not iodine

  -Purple colour can be difficult to see, hold infant of paper
