Types of attachment

• Secure attachment

  Strong bond between child and caregiver.

  If separated the infant becomes distressed

  Infant easily comforted when reunited
• Insecure-avoidant attachment

  When separated from caregiver the child doesn't become distressed

  Can be comforted by a stranger

  Avoid social interaction and intimacy
• Insecure-resistant attachment

  Child uneasy around caregiver

  Distress when separated

  Can't be comforted by strangers but resist caregiver

  Accept and reject intimacy and interaction
