Attachment can be disrupted by separation or deprivation
Separation = Child is away from caregiver they're attached to, relatively short amount of time
Deprivation = loss of something that is wanted or needed, more long-term and permenant
Effects of disruption can be reversed
Skeels and Dye found children who were socially deprived during their first two years of life improved their IQ scores if they were transferred to a school where they got one-to-one care
