    • Hadn't had opportunity to form attachments
    • By age 4 some children returned to mother some been adopted and some stayed in nursery

    At age 16, adopted group had a strong family relationship but had weaker peer relationships compared to those who returned to their mothers
    Those who stayed in nursery had poorest relationships

    Children can recover from early maternal deprivation if they are in a good quality, loving environment but social development may not be as good as children who never suffered privation
