    To assess the impact of western attitudes and eating behaviours on teenage girls
  • Becker Sample
    • 63 Adolescent girls took part in research in 1995 before Tv was introduced and a different set of 65 girls in 1998 after TV had been broadcast for 3 years
    • Mean age of 17 and all native fijians and English speakerd
  • Becker procedure
    • Girls took part in a semi structured interview about their general attitude to eating behaviour and body image creating qualitative data which was recorded and thematically analysed
    • EAT 26 questionnaire and interview were carried out in the girls’ homes
  • Becker’s results (From 1995 to 1998)
    • Eat26 scores above 20 went from 24.5% to 29.2%
    • Self induced vomiting went from 0% to 11.3%
    • Households with TV went from 41.4% to 70%
