  • Jesus: '"Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net that was thrown into the sea and caught fish of every kind; when it was full, they drew it ashore, sat down, and put the good into baskets but threw out the bad. So it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come out and separate the evil from the righteous and throw them into the furnace of fire, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth." (Matthew 13:47-50)'
  • As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. "Come, follow me," Jesus said, "and I will make you fishers of men." —Matthew 4:18-19
  • Before the parable, Simon and Andrew landed into the shore, Jesus asked them for a favor to step on the boat so the people could hear him loudly as He will share a parable. Andrew was amazed upon seeing the Messiah, as for Simon, he was not interested and told Jesus that they have no time for that. Jesus pleaded and told Simon to just hear Him out. Simon was convinced and let Jesus step into the boat.
  • After the parable, Jesus bid goodbye and told the people that He has business to attend to with His new friend.
  • Lesson of the parable
    • The central point of the parable revolves around the concept of judgment and the eventual separation of those who belong to God's kingdom from those who do not. It underscores the importance of living a righteous life and being prepared for the day of reckoning.

    • Go back to the basics of life....the Christian life, which means follow Christ
    • To follow means to do what is right, believe in the gospel, and share it with others
    • Through others we can express our good deeds. For Christ said..."whatever you do to the least of my brothers and sisters you do it to me"
  • The net
Symbol of God's vineyard-the world, where everyone is free to choose what is right and wrong
  • Rev. Fr. C.G. Lt. Ronel O. Dizon: 'Interview answers: 1. The righteous are kept whereas evildoers are separated and thrown out. 2. All of us will be judged by God in the future. 3. The parable reminds us that we must prepare ourselves to be ready because all of us will be judged according to our deeds. 4. Hence, the idea of the separation of the good and the bad. 5. The net is the symbol of God's vineyard-the world, where everyone is free to choose what is right and wrong.'
