• 1st May 1960 : A U-2 plane flown by the Gary power is brought down over the Ural Mountains by a Soviet missile
• 1st May 1960 : Powers is captured . Film and tapes are recovered from the plane
• 5th May 1960 : The USSR announces the shooting down of the U-2 plane
• 5th May 1960 : President Eisnhower denies it was spying
• 7th May 1960 : Khrushchev announces that Powers will be put on trial for spying
• 11th May 1960 : Eisenhower was forced to admit that it was spying
• 14 th May 1960 : The delegation arrive in Paris for the Summit
• 14th May 1960 : Khrushchev refuses to attend the Summit unless all U-2 flights are cancelled
• 14th May 1960 : Khrushchev refuses to attend the Summit unless Eisenhower apologises
• 16th May 1960 : Eisenhower cancel the U-2 flights but refuses to apologise
• 16th May 1960 : Khrushchev walks out of the Summit
