Inheritance

• Inheritance is the passing of characteristics from one generation to the next
• An allele is one version of a particular gene, which can be dominant or recessive
• Heterozygous: having two different alleles of a particular gene or genes(Bb)
• Homozygous dominant allele is when both alleles are dominant and the phenotype is expressed(BB)
• Homozygous recessive is when both alleles are recessive(bb)
• Phenotype is the physical expression of the genotype(Observable characteristics)
• Genotype determines the genetic composition of an individual at one gene.(Symbols of two alleles)
• Incomplete dominance contains a dominant allele and a recessive allele. Dominant allele not fully expressed
• Codominance is when 2 dominant alleles are being expressed at the same time
• Punnet square - A diagram used to show the probability of offspring from a cross
